A former Member of Parliament for Obuasi and Obuasi East, Edward Enin has explained that the party is losing its grips of the Ashanti region.

According to him, the NPP's behaviour and actions are making the party unpopular in their stronghold region.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' program, he explained that some decisions of the party in the region needs national attention.

He said the Ashanti Region is the party’s backbone and stronghold when it comes to elections so they should be careful as to how they treat members of the party in the region.

"The party in the region should not be in the news for any bad reason. But from the way things are going and the way the party is been managed in the region, the party may lose its grips of the region," he said.

He added that the Ashanti regional executives should not forget that people they suspend have a large supporters base and that it will have a ripple effect on the party as a whole.

"Executives of the party should sit down and revise their decisions on some of the issues that come before them."

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako alias Chairman Wontumi has confirmed the suspension of the Parliamentary Aspirant at Asawase Constituency, Manaf Ibrahim over insults.

He disclosed on Kumasi-based Pure FM that the Presidential Staffer has been handed an infinite suspension for violating the rules and regulations of the party and showing disrespect to the Regional Executive Committee by allowing his supporters to insult them.

By this, he indicates that Manaf Ibrahim is not a member of good standing and cannot contest in the forthcoming parliamentary primary of the party for orphan constituencies.

The aspirant weeks ago side-stepped a decision by the party in the region to allow for some candidates to contest unopposed at the primary, noting that the directive was in sharp contravention of the rules and regulations of the party’s constitution.

He, therefore, picked his nomination forms and filed which is said to have angered Chairman Wontumi.
