The Amasaman Divisional Police Command has arrested the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Constituency Chairman for Trobu, Kwame Ofosu Agyei, for attempting to take over activities at the Doblo toll booth.

According to a statement signed by the Regional Commander, ACP Timothy Yosa Bonga, the constituency chairman was arrested for forcibly entering the toll booth and threatening to take over revenue collection. He is also accused of assaulting a police officer who was on duty at the time.

Providing details about the situation, the Greater Accra Regional Police PRO, ASP Efia Tenge, told Citi News the chairman is being processed for court.

She added that, “the Accra Regional police command is condemning the lawlessness and vandalism being perpetrated with impunity. For the command, it will treat such persons are purely criminal elements.”

Some youth alleged to be sympathizers of the NPP have recently been on rampage; taking over some state properties and institutions including the Ghana Ports and Habours Authority and the Ashaiman assembly.

At Nima, the Divisional Police Command has arrested three other people for similarly taking over three toilet facilities within Mamobi.

The Police Command says it is poised to clamp down on all such unlawful acts.

“The Regional Police Command will treat such persons as criminal elements”.

The Accra Regional Police command on Thursday also arrested five people at CMB and Makola Market in Accra, for preventing revenue collectors from issuing toll tickets to traders.

The five are 25-year old Musah Muship and Abdulai Mohammed aged 41. The rest are 32-year old Issahaku Sulemana, Adam Mahama 39, and Sulemana Issahaku 32. They are all scrap dealers operating in Accra.

According to the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Effia Tenge “the suspects allegedly seized toll tickets, assaulted the Accra Metropolitan Assemble Revenue Collectors and [also] collected cash to the sum of two thousand Ghana cedis from them.”
