Former Minister of Local Government Rural Development and Member of Parliament (MP) for Esutifi South, Mr. Collins Dauda says he is distressed about how the Nana Addo’s government is treating cocoa farmers describing the situation ‘as a disappointment’.

He claims the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has deliberately decided not to fulfill its promises made to cocoa farmers in the country leaving them to their fate.

“Cocoa farming is one major occupation in my constituency and ‘there is the need for me to show concern’. He said.

According to him, all that the NPP then in opposition said during the campaign season have been turned upside down and not a single one has been honoured to the farmers.

“The NPP during the 2016 campaign promised our farmers it was going to increase prices from GH¢470.00 with bonus of GH¢500 to GH¢ 800 because we the NDC’s were cheating them looking at the foreign market prices at the time”. He disclosed on Nhyira Fm in an assessment of the government so far.

The lawmaker said he was of the conviction the current government will make do its promises by increasing the prices of cocoa and bonus for farmers in subsequent months on assuming office but the situation has not changed ever since indicating that it smacks of deceit.

On the issue of fertilizer supply, Mr. Dauda lamented that, the reasons given by government for the half sale of the price of fertilizers to farmers is unacceptable and could best be described as cheating.

“Most of the products (fertilizers) supplied this year are still at the various warehouses in the districts simply because they (farmers) can’t afford the amount”. He said
