Rumours have sprung up recently in Ghana's political terrain pertaining to the country's position on the IMF programme.

The New Patriotic Party has in the past criticised the National Democratic Congress government for going unto the IMF programme with Vice President-elect Dr Mahmud Bawumia openly chastising the move by the outgoing NDC administration.

Economists have downplayed the possibility of the incoming NPP government to abandon the programme.

Economist and Head of Finance at the University of Ghana, Dr. Lord Mensah, has asserted that it will be unnecessary to abandon or cancel the programme since Ghana is already benefitting from it.

With the extent of criticism levelled against Ghana's constant move to the IMF by then main opposition NPP, the possibility of abandoning the programme is not out of reach.
