NPP Storms Accra Streets Over “Selective Justice,” Demands Accountability

The New Patriotic Party brought its grievances straight to the doorstep of Ghana’s judiciary on Wednesday, as thousands of party faithful poured into the streets of Accra for a demonstration branded “Democracy Under Attack.”

The protest, which kicked off at the forecourt of the Supreme Court, saw the party’s top brass turn out in full force. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin led the charge alongside a lineup of former government appointees and party executives, all decked out in the NPP’s signature red and black as they wound their way through the capital.

At the heart of the party’s anger is what it calls a troubling pattern of favoritism baked into the country’s justice system — with the recent acquittal and discharge of former MASLOC boss Sedina Tamakloe Attionu cited as Exhibit A.

For the NPP, the outcome of that case isn’t just one ruling — it’s a red flag. Party leaders say it points to deeper cracks in how justice is being administered under the current government, raising uncomfortable questions about whether the system is playing fair or playing favorites.

The demonstration adds to a growing chorus of pressure the opposition has been mounting against the administration, with the party signaling that Wednesday’s march is unlikely to be its last word on the matter.
