President John Dramani Mahama has said though his government has executed a number of developmental projects, it would have done far better had the New Patriotic Party (NPP) petitioned the Supreme Court over the results of the 2012 elections.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) challenged the results of the 2012 election at the Supreme Court alleging the results were rigged to favour John Dramani Mahama.
The Supreme Court however declared President Mahama as the winner of the election.
Addressing the Chiefs and people of Aboadze after inspecting the Shama and Aboadze sea defense project, President Mahama argued that the petition brought what he calls “uncertainty” and slowed down the economy.
“When I took over in 2013, our friends took us to the court over the 2012 election.Almost the entire first year was wasted. We were uncertain about the outcome so it stalled the development of the country. They were there counting pink sheets, we counted pink sheets for almost a year. Despite that we were able to undertake a lot of projects. This means we could have done more.In this election, we are going to give them a resounding defeat so that they wouldn’t think of going to court.”
The President also highlighted some projects executed by government and also charged the electorates to vote massively for the NDC to enable them continue to transform the country.
“We have a lot of projects we must undertake. We have constructed roads, schools, water expansion projects and hospitals across the length and breadth of the country. If you refer to our green book, you will notice that within these four years, we have done well. It is not even four years, but three years.”
The election is a critical one and so I urge you all to exhibit a high sense of tolerance, because the election is a not about insults, confusion or fights. The election is about choosing a leader who will govern you. When it is time to vote, please do this peacefully and with a good heart because of the love we have for Ghana,” he added.
