Tension is escalating in Gushegu in the Northern region following the murder of a young man at a local eatery after a scuffle over who to be served first broke out.

Yakubu Iddi, 23, according to police died at the Gushegu hospital after he was stabbed multiple times in the lower abdomen by one Ibrahim after a hot verbal exchanges at a rice eatery.

The deceased allegedly arrived at the local food joint and wanted to be served before those in the row.

Eye witnesses said Ibrahim raised objection and the deceased got furious accusing Ibrahim of ‘disrespect’. The two men engaged in a fiery verbal assault until an elderly man intervened and called for calm.

District Police Commander ASP Paa Yeboah said the incident happened at about 12amSaturday dawn when the deceased allegedly invited Ibrahim to a separate location for a fight.

ASP Yeboah added that unknown to the deceased, Ibrahim had armed himself with a knife and when two met, he struck him many times with the knife and fled.

The deceased was left writhing in pain until he managed to make his way to the suspect house before he was conveyed in a tricycle to the hospital where doctors said he died of excessive bleeding.

The police commander said the suspect has admitted the crime but currently receiving treatment for knee injury during the deadly struggle.

Ibrahim, police said, is likely to be transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital and will be arraigned before court immediately he is fully recovered.

However, the youth have refused to bury the deceased citing police distrust and stormed the Gushegu hospital to lynch the killer raising tensions in an already volatile district rugged by chieftaincy and political divisions.

Assembly member of Nayilifong electoral area Suale Alidu says the youth are demanding jail sentence for Ibrahim and will keep the body against the tenants of Islam until the suspect is tried and caged.

ASP Yeboah told Kasapa News the youth have been spoken to and calm has returned though he has ordered security operations in the area be intensified.
