NRSA warns of arrest and prosecution of person who flout Toyota Voxy ban
9th April 2026
The Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority, Abraham Amaliba, has issued a strong warning to drivers and operators of Toyota Voxy vehicles, stating that anyone who defies new safety directives will face arrest and prosecution.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Amaliba said the Authority is moving from policy discussions to strict enforcement, following recommendations from a technical committee that assessed the safety of the vehicles.
“We will partner with the Police MTTD and ensure these vehicles are not parked at the stations,” he said, referring to the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service.
He added that enforcement teams will be deployed across major roads to monitor compliance, stressing that offenders will face immediate action.
“When we get you on the roads, we will arrest and prosecute you,” he cautioned.
The warning follows plans to restrict Toyota Voxy vehicles from long-distance commercial use after findings revealed significant safety risks.
According to the committee’s report, many of the vehicles have undergone extensive structural modifications, including alterations to suspension systems and tyres—often carried out by unlicensed operators. These changes, authorities say, compromise the structural integrity of the vehicles and increase the risk of mechanical failure.
Mr Amaliba further disclosed that the Authority will engage key stakeholders, including transport operators, within the next two weeks ahead of full implementation.
“We will engage relevant stakeholders and transport operators by next week before implementation,” he said.
The NRSA emphasised that its collaboration with the police will be central to ensuring the directive is effectively enforced, with clear consequences for non-compliance as part of efforts to improve road safety nationwide.
