The National Union of Ghana Students on Thursday afternoon paid a working visit to the victims the La gas explosion at the 37 military hospital.

They members of the largest student organisation in Ghana were led into the emergency wards by the public relations officer of the 37 military hospital, Mr Gariba Pabi.

The entourage led by Mr LUQMAN Abubakari, the NUGS President, also met two victims who are students with one being a basic school student and a female(name withheld) university student offering BBA Accounting at the Zenith university college, who are speedily responding to treatments.

"At this trying moments as you are recovering steadily,we wish to inform you that NUGS is solidly behind you in prayers. We are here today to sympathize with you and wish you a speedy recovery", the President of NUGS said.

According to the student body,it has realised that the victims need counselling and guidance as they are recovering and taking up unfamiliar body features as a result of the burns.

Speaking to ghanaguardian.com, NUGS coordinating secretary, Yiadom Boakye Emmanuel, pleaded with the government,EPA and all stakeholders to take measures to ensure the safety of lives and properties in the various campuses and communities.

"We would like appeal to the Government the EPA and all stakeholders to protect lives and properties since there are various gas stations sited around schools and communities."

"Typical examples are the gas stations situated just behind Odogono SHS,opposite Techiman SHS,opposite University of Professional Studies,Accra (UPSA) and many others" adding: "that poses a major threat to the lives of Ghanaian students."

Eleven people died and at least 40 others were injured in a gas explosion at La trade fair in Accra on the 22nd of December, 2016.

The Ghana Fire Service says it preliminary investigations into the deadly explosion point to missing bolts and nuts on a tanker emptying gas at the station as the possible cause of the fire.

The Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) has since closed the the gas station to make way for the evacuation of the gas and also prevent “any further danger to public health and safety.
