A resident of Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, Kingsford Boakye, popularly known as Piero, has accused the Obuasi Municipal Assembly of inflating the cost of projects.

According to him, documents he has intercepted from the assembly revealed that an amount of GHS130,000 was used in constructing a fence wall around the residence of the MCE.

Per his estimation, that amount was enough to put up an entirely new building.

Speaking on AccraFM on Monday, 24 September, Mr Boakye said similarly, an amount of GHS198,000 was used in painting an already existing building.

To that end, he said: “We want the government to send auditors to the assembly to audit these projects. We are raising these concerns because we are citizens and not spectators.”

Meanwhile, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Lawrence Nana Bonsra, has said the issues raised by Mr Boakye are currently before the assembly.

“I think before we accuse anybody, we need to ask ourselves when these projects were done. That said, let me add that these are concerns that are currently before the assembly that we are looking at,” he said.
