Ghana defender Kadiri Mohammed is set to join South African top-flight side SuperSport United in the coming days, GHANAsoccer.com can exclusively reveal.

The 22-year-old will arrive in South African in the coming days to undergo a medical before the deal is sealed.

The AshantiGold defender has been cleared by the Obuasi-based club to undergo the medical in Johannesburg.

He is now chasing his visa from the South African High Commission in Accra before he is able to travel to seal the deal.

Mohammed, who was handed his first Ghana senior national team call-up in June by coach Avram Grant, has attracted attention following his performances for both club and country.

SuperSport have moved to swoop for the defender before clubs in Europe notice his potential with the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Gabon looming.

The hard tackling defender was among three debutants Avram Grant named in Ghana’s team that played Mauritius in June.

According to Grant the defender earned the call up due to his impressive performance in Ghana’s friendly against Japan in June.

Mohammed will be the second Ghanaian to join SuperSport after Edwin Gyimah excelled before leaving the club.

If the deal is sealed, the move for Mohammed would be a real scoop for SuperSport as the centre-back can fit into many sides in Europe.

There were even rumours of European sides seeking his signature while local giants Hearts of Oak and Kotoko said to be seeking the defender.
