President John Dramani Mahama has urged the electorate not to fall for the "one this, one that"  promises of the New Patriotic Party (NPP ) because those promises are only meant to win votes.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the Wa Naa, Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo, at his palace on Friday, the President said:  “The one this, one that promises are empty promises."

Earlier on Thursday night, President Mahama made a similar statement at a rally at Dafiama as he campaigned in the Upper West Region.

“In 2000, the same people came and made all kinds of promises. And when they come to power we will do this, when we come to power we will do this. And then as soon as they were elected into power, they said oh, well we can’t do the things we said we will do for you because when we came, the Rawlings government left us debts ‘Opepepeepee’. It is the same trick they want to use again.”

“The same trick; one village one dam, one village one factory, one village one something, one constituency, one million dollars, one this, one that, then when they come into office; which they won’t, they will come and say John Mahama’s government left a huge debt so because of that what we said we will do, we can’t do for you. That’s the trick. It’s a political trick. It’s a con game," the President said.

President Mahama asked, for instance, what factories the NPP intended to build. "Tell us what factory it is," he challenged the NPP flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and went further to state that, " If it is gari factories, we have them already. So until you define it, we won’t know what you are talking about."

“So when they come with those empty promises and sloganeering, you should ask questions. It’s not like God hasn’t given them power before. The good thing God has done is, he has made NDC taste power, he has made NPP taste power. And the question we should be asking the NPP here is when you were in office, what did you do for us?” President Mahama stated.

President Mahama again took on the NPP for deliberately closing their eyes to the many socio-economic infrastructural projects undertaken by the government.

"Everywhere they go, they travel on the roads I have built and they can't say they can't see the roads unless you are sleeping. They also drink the water we have provided in the communities," he said.

Government on course

He told the Wa Naa that his government was on course to position Ghana as an economic powerhouse on the continent.

Campaigning like opposition

The President said many would be wondering why he was campaigning like an opposition leader.

"I am taking this election seriously. We are campaigning like we are in opposition because we cannot take the destiny of this country for granted," the President explained.

He urged the youth to take advantage of the opportunities created by the government to acquire the necessary skills that would enable them to earn a living.

President commended

The Wa Naa was full of praise for the President for the numerous development projects his government had executed in Wa and the Upper West Region.

He said Ghana had started enjoying the bright future the President promised in 2012 and from all indications, the next four years under President Mahama would bring further progress.

"You have created better opportunities for our citizens. Your administration is delivering on its promises to make Ghana a better place to live in," Naa Pelpuo told the President.
