One-year-old boy stolen from Takoradi found
26th March 2019
The one-year-old baby stolen from his mother at the Takoradi Market Circle in the Western Region has been rescued by the police.
Reports suggest little Francis Mawusi Ahiabenu was rescued by the Western Regional SWAT Team after a tip off.
Sources within the police said he was found in Effiekuma Zongo at around 11pm Monday, March 25, 2019.
Meanwhile, the woman who stole the baby, together with her accomplice, a guy believed to be a Togolese, have been arrested.
The baby has since been released to his parents after being examined at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital.
The baby was stolen from his mother last Friday, March 22, 2019 at the Takoradi Market Circle.
Mother of the baby, Nana Akosua, claimed a woman in her 40s is the one who stole her child.
She narrated that the suspect approached her and engaged her in a conversation in front of her store.
The mother said the suspect asked if her two children were Ewes and later asked for their names as well.
Upon disclosing that her youngest kid is called Mawusi, the suspect claimed she also bears the same name.
Nana Akosua said the suspect then requested to buy a pastry and sausage for her kids.
She said she was initially reluctant due to the recent kidnappings in the region but decided to allow it and monitor the suspect closely.
According to her, she returned to her spot after she saw the suspect returning with her children, only to realise they were nowhere to be found.
She said she waited for more than an hour, but only her second child returned with the suspect escaping with the baby.
Meanwhile, the alleged baby thief and her accomplice are currently in police custody.
