Otto Addo, head coach of the Black Stars, has arrived in Washington, D.C. for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final Draw, set to take place on Friday, December 5, 2025. The former Ghana international was greeted warmly by fans who travelled to the American capital to support the team.

Historic Achievement

  • Addo has become the first coach to lead Ghana to two World Cups, following a successful qualifying campaign where the Black Stars topped Group I with 25 points.

  • Ghana will be making their fifth World Cup appearance, having previously reached the Round of 16 in 2006 and the quarter-finals in 2010.

  • Addo himself was part of the squad that debuted in Germany 2006, contributing to Ghana’s historic progression past the group stage.
Pot 4 Challenge

  • Ghana enter the draw in Pot 4, meaning they could face heavyweights such as Argentina, France, or Germany — the country of Addo’s birth.

  • The expanded 48-team format offers new opportunities, but also raises the stakes for nations in lower pots.
Addo’s Legacy

  • As a player, Addo recorded wins in every World Cup match he featured in (vs Czech Republic and USA in 2006).

  • As a coach, he has now achieved another milestone: the first Black coach to lead a nation to two successive World Cups.

  • He played a behind-the-scenes role in Ghana’s famous 2–2 draw with Germany at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, providing tactical insights to then-coach Kwesi Appiah.
The Road Ahead

Friday’s draw will be pivotal for Addo both personally and professionally. After Ghana’s early exit in Qatar 2022, he is determined to rewrite the narrative and guide the Black Stars back to the latter stages of the tournament.

This moment is not just about who Ghana will face — it’s about renewed belief, unfinished business, and the chance for Otto Addo to etch his name deeper into Black Stars history.
