Otto Addo praises Ghana Premier League’s progress, expresses optimism for continued growth

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has commended the development of the Ghana Premier League, acknowledging its improvement in recent seasons.

Addo, who was present to watch Medeama’s 1-0 win over Legon Cities at the University of Ghana Stadium, shared his thoughts on the league's evolution.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Addo noted, “This is my first season observing the league closely. At the end of the last season, I watched a little bit of videos; it was okay in general."

He added, "I think it's picking up, it's getting more interesting, and we have to see. I think it's early; it’s now early [to make an assessment]. Let’s watch the season and see how the players perform.

I think the performance, in general, is going up. When I compare it to two years ago, it has improved."

Although Addo included only one Ghana Premier League player, Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Fredrick Asare, in his squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, he hinted at his growing interest in local talents.

He is expected to call up more home-based players for next month's crucial qualifiers against Sudan, signaling a greater reliance on the domestic league.

Addo’s increased involvement in scouting local talent is seen as a significant boost for the Ghana Premier League, with hopes that more players will earn opportunities to represent the national team.
