The President of the Council of Zongo Chiefs Kumasi, Naba Musah Akanbonga has made a profound statement over who owns the allegiance of the Council of Zongo Chiefs in Kumasi.

The stalwart tribesman, who looked to have had his feathers ruffled by suggestions made by the Ashanti Regional Security Council that he and his council of chiefs had to concede fealty to the head of the Hausa community in Kumasi, hauled over the coal at the Ashanti Regional Security Council making an emphatic statement that the zongo chiefs owe allegiance only to the overlord of the Asanteman Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11.

Speaking at a durbar for the celebration of Eid Ul Adha at Asawasi M/A JHS Park in Kumasi, Naba Musah who doubles as the Frafra chief of Kumasi, regretted the treatment being meted out to his council by the Regional Coordinating Council headed by Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. John Alexandar Ackon.

According to Naba Musah, the Ashanti Regional Security Council refused to invite the council of zongo chiefs for the last regional ministers conference because they (council of zongo chiefs) do not owe allegiance to the "Sarikin Zongo"

"I wish to express the displeasure of members of the Council of Zongo Chiefs about the manner we are being treated by the Ashanti Regional Security Council. At the last conference of the Regional Ministers held in Kumasi, we were told that they did not invite us because we do not owe allegiance to the Head of Hausa Community in Kumasi" Naba Musah protested.

"We want to make it emphatically clear that we owe allegiance ONLY to the Overlord of Asanteman Kingdom Osei Tutu 11" the disgruntled chief stated.

He was however quick to emphasize that the council is at peace with the head of the Hausa community.

"However the Council is at peace with the Sarikin Zongo. He reiterated.

There have been several altercations over the power controlled by "Sarikin Zongo" who is overlord of the Hausa people in Kumasi for sometime now.

The Hausa language is widely spoken by the zongo residents who come from various ethnic backgrounds ranging from Frafras, Mamprusis, Dagomabas, Gonjas, Zambramas among others. The dominance of the Hausa language in the zongo community may have triggered the squabble over the extent of power wielded by the Hausa head.

The Council of  Zongo Chiefs is however disgruntled about the misunderstanding and projections of the Ashanti Regional Security Council and are bent on stating clearly their allegiance only to Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11.

The Council head who is also the deputy PRO for the national unit of the council took the opportunity to urge politicians not to take the country for a ride ahead of the upcoming elections.

Making reference to the ten commandments in the Bible, the chief stated; "God for his love for mankind has prescribed for us his dislikes in the ten commandments part of which reads 'Thou shall not steal' and some of the ingredients for stealing are indiscipline, alterations, falsifications, cheating, lack of sympathy, suppression etc. Politics when done well is a kind of worship. I therefore urge you all to let your political doctrine become a kind of worship"
