PHOTOS: Manhyia Palace delegation calls on Speaker

A seven-member delegation from the Manhyia Palace has paid a courtesy call on the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aaron Michael Oquaye, to officially invite Parliament to grace the final funeral rites of the late Queenmother of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Afi Kobi Serwaa Ampem.


As custom demands, the 7 member delegation led by Nana Nsuase Poku Agyemang III, the Chief Linguist of the Otumfuo presented four aromatic schnapps to the Speaker to officially invite Parliament to the funeral of the late Queen mother of the Asante Kingdom.
Speaker in a brief remarks said Parliament received the news of the demise of the late Afia Serwaa Ampim Kobi with shock.
He noted that having received the news, Parliament was already preparing to also attend the final funeral rites of the late Asante Queenmother even if Manhyia had not invited them.
Rt. Hon. Prof. Mike Ocquaye told the delegation to tell the Otumfuo that Parliament will do whatever best in its capacity to ensure that the late Queenmother gets a befitting burial.

He onbelf of Parliament also presented some drinks and water to the Otumfuo noting that her wife is also a royal from the Asante Kingdom and further promised that she will be there in advance to assist with the preparation of the funeral ceremony.
