Here Are Pictures Of All Ghanaian Currencies From Independence Until Now

We know how Ghanaians feel these days when we talk about our currency because of its lost value against the major foreign currencies.
But did you know how far we’ve come with our currencies since independence?
1. This is One Pound which was issued in 1962.
For your information, this wasn’t equivalent to the British One Pound and although we had attained independence by then, the British were still controlling our Banks till Nkrumah introduced our own currency.
2. When Kwame Nkrumah first introduced the Cedi, which was to take over the Pound.
This was ¢1.00 and it was less than 1 pesewas today. But the things it could do back then…hmmm!!!
3. Within the same time, this was the ¢5.00.
4. This was ¢10.00 back then and that should be equivalent to 10 pesewas today.
5. And this was 10 shillings, far less than 10 pesewas today but it was valuable back then.
6. We know by now you’re smiling because at least you’ve seen one you’re familiar with.
This was ¢20,000 in 90’s and that is equivalent to ¢2.00 today.
7. This is ¢5,000 in the 90’s and if you should get one of this to school back then, you were the richest kid.
This is equivalent to ¢0.50 pesewas today.
8. This was ¢50.00 back in the 80’s and that should be equivalent to five pesewas today.
9. This was ¢50 in the 60’s
10. ¢100 also in the 60’s.
11. This was ¢200 equivalent to two pesewas today.
12. Then we had this in the 90’s and it is equivalent to ten pesewas today.
13. This was in use in 1958 when the British were still controlling our banks. We used to spend the Pound you know.
14. Within that same period, this was Five Pounds.
15. This was in the 80’s and should be equivalent to One Pesewa today.
16. This should be equivalent to five pesewas today.
17. This should be around one pesewas today.
18. And this one, 2 pesewas.
19. This is equivalent to Five Pesewas today, but back then, it did wonders.
20. This old man really saved some lives some time ago, but today, it is dead and gone.
This currency wouldn’t amount to even 10 pesewas today, it should be equivalent to One Pesewa today.
21. This is nowhere near today’s ¢10.00 oh!
22. And this one too, we’ve really come a long way.
23. If your parents gave you one of these in those days, you’re expected to bring back change oh!
24. This is actually 5 pesewas now.
25. And this should be 10 pesewas now.
26. And this one should be 5 pesewas now.
27. And this one is actually 20 pesewas today.
28. Then this was introduced in 2007, but still “yenhu so”.
29. And the almighty ¢20.00.
