The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), following a video which has gone viral on social media platforms of alleged plastic fish which is on sale on the Mallam Atta market have launched an investigation in Accra.

The Authority stated that, it earlier received an information that “had earlier received similar complaints of some fish after which investigations conducted indicated that they were genuine fish and not plastic".

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Delese A. Darko in a statement which was released on Friday, 27 April 2018, stated that  “the ‘plastic nature’ of the said investigated fish is noted to be a characteristic of the fish”.

In the statement, the Authority has also stated that, “since, many of such information have turned out to be false after investigations” and “rather create fear and panic”, the FDA  should be alerted first before spreading such information.
