Currently, the Ashanti regional police commander, COP Nathan Boakye is visiting the area in an attempt to broker peace.
Citi News’ Ashanti regional correspondent, Hawa Iddrisu who was with him explained that the Chief of Tafo, Nana Agyen Frimpong Ababio is angry following the release of seven persons whose actions triggered clashes in the area in February this year.
The police chief is also visiting the Muslim community to speak to the chief of the area.
Background
On Tuesday, over a hundred and fifty youth besieged the local chief’s palace demanding to be given the right to defend themselves against some Muslim youth in the area.
Their fears followed the alleged threats from the youth of the Zongo community and the possibility of the clashes in Tafo being rekindled.
In February, the people in the clash affected area were subjected to a 6pm to 6am curfew.
A clash in the area was over a piece of cemetery land led to the death of 25 year old Aminu Sulemana, with several others injured and property destroyed.
This was after the chief of Tafo halted the fencing of a cemetary land, an exercise by the Muslims of the area.
A mosque and some churches were reportedly destroyed in the clashes.
