The Ghana Police Service has invited Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a radio and television presenter with Kumasi-based Wontumi TV/ FM over the publication of false news.

Nana Asiedu is to assist with investigations concerning the dissemination of false information about the 7th December election, following a viral video.

The video captured Oheneba in the studios of Wontumi FM, claiming that voters will cast their ballots for presidential candidates on separate days.

In a statement, the Police highlighted that this information is misleading and does not reflect the election procedures.

The Police described the statement made in the video as “false and likely to disturb the public peace.”

The Service expressed concern over the potential consequences of such misinformation, stressing that it could disrupt the election process and create unnecessary confusion among the electorate.

The public, especially media professionals have been urged to act cautiously and responsibly when disseminating information.

The Service also called for restraint in the publication of any news that could be false or lead to a disturbance of public peace, reminding media practitioners of their duty to ensure accurate and responsible reporting.
