The Ghana Police Command has ordered  the suspension of checks on all drivers’ licences and other related motor-checks on the country’s roads "with immediate effect", a memo by the service indicates.

However the memo, which was signed by the Commission of Police Ransford Moses Ninson ,orders  personnel on highway patrol  to limit their work to inspection of cars for drugs and ammunition only.

DCOP Ninson said  officers of the Motor Traffic and Transport Division of the Police Service, must be deployed only for traffic management duties.

The memo  further charges all Regional, Divisional, District and Unit commanders  to ensure that no permits are issued for motor check duties.

No reason was given in the memo for the new directive.
