Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander ACP Ampofo Duku has revealed that his outfit will on Friday, August 5, engage community leaders in Tafo to find a lasting solution to the impasse between them.

In an interview with Pulse News, ACP Ampofo Duku said the police are doing all they can to avert any reprisal attacks that may arise after the alleged attack on a youth in the area.

We have served due notice to both factions to talk about peace and asked the community leaders to advice their youth to live peacefully together. Anybody who would disturb the peace would be dealt with,” he said

Irate youth in the Tafo community besieged the Tafo palace on Tuesday, August 2, to demand weapons to defend themselves from potential attacks by some members of the Zongo community.

The youth, therefore, called on the chiefs and elders as well as the security agencies to resolve the matter once and for all.

A cemetery-land dispute between the two factions resulted in the death of one and the destruction of several properties in the area in February leading to the imposition of a curfew in the area before calm was restored.

According to ACP Duku investigations are ongoing to find alleged assailants who attacked a youth in the area.

He added that the police, asides patrolling the Tafo Township and its environs, would do everything possible to ensure calm in the area but was quick to caution individuals who will take the law in their hands to desist from it

“Those who say they will take arms to defend themselves should bear in mind the consequences awaiting them” he added.
