PPP "surprised" by Nana Addo's "family and friends" Government
14th March 2017
The Progressive Peoples Party(PPP) has expressed "surprise" at President Nana Akufo-Addo's mode of appointments, accusing him of running a “family and friends” government.
The PPP's claim follows some of appointments made by the presidents, which is dominated by names believed to be from his family.
The NPP, in the heat a of the 2016 election campaign had accused the then President Mahama of running a family and friends government.
But President Nana Addo, early this month, appointed his daughter, Gyankroma Akufo-Addo as a secretary to the National Creative Arts council, with names like Ken Ofori Atta, the finance minister with the brother-in-law of the Vice President Abu Ramadan being appointed as deputy NADMO boss, a move that has shocked the PPP.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, the national chairman of the PPP, Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond took a swipe at the NPP government for its inability to form an all-inclusive government as promised during the 2016 campaign prior to the presidential and parliamentary elections.
He also indicated that, the outlined policies of government will only yield slow pace of development in the country.
“We the PPP are increasingly surprised the that the change in government from NDC to NPP seems to repeat mere changes to personalities occupying high offices and positions of trust in our land and not change in the substantial matters of reorientation.”
“How does a strictly partisan NPP local government ensure that all Ghanaians get the opportunity to participate in it?” Dr. Brew-Hammond questioned further.
Some Ghanaians have questioned Nana Addo's criteria for appointment, with some describing it as mere move to reward party faithfuls.
According to the PPP, the President's repetition of a similar act his party has accused the NDC of doing only shows that the campaign for change was just a mere rhetorics.
