President Akufo-Addo has thrown his weight behind Black Stars coach, C.K Akonnor ahead of next year's AFCON in Cameroon.

The first gentleman says he believes in the capabilities of the former Black Stars captain now coach as he has been at the highest level in the game.

He made this known on Friday 30th April, 2021, during a fund raising breakfast meeting which was orgainzed with key players in the country’s banking industry at the Jubilee House in Accra.

At the meeting, the President appealed to the conscience of the various Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and representatives of the banks on the need to support the Black Stars as they prepare to participate in the 2022 African cup of Nations (Afcon) and compete for a place in the world cup to be hosted by Qatar, in June next year.

He said the Black Stars under the leadership of its current coach, C. K. Akonnor, is poised to make history after forty (40) years since the team last won the continental trophy.

“We have our former captain CK Akonnor of the Black Stars who is now coach of the team here, he’s been to the highest level of the game, we believe in him and we must all support him to succeed,” the President said when he met CEO’s of the Banks at a Breakfast meeting to raise money for the Black Stars at the Jubilee House.
