President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Diana Ayamga as District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bongo in the Upper East Region, subject to approval by the District Assembly.

The nomination was made in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), and was announced by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

Madam Ayamga is expected to succeed Joseph Abaa Akaseke, who passed away on February 23, 2026, after a short illness.

In a statement signed by the sector minister, Ahmed Ibrahim, government indicated that the appointment forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen local governance structures across the country.

It also emphasised that her nomination will only take effect after confirmation by assembly members.

Mr Akaseke, who was appointed in April 2025, had secured strong backing from the assembly during his confirmation, polling 52 out of 54 votes—a reflection of confidence in his leadership and development agenda for the district.

He had pledged to promote inclusive and participatory governance to help advance development in Bongo.
