More rains are expected in the southern sector and middle belt of the country, as the rainy season reaches its peak.

The public has therefore been urged to take precautionary measures, with respect to the various risks that go with the season, especially flooding.

Mr Tetteh Portuphy, head of the forecasting session of the Ghana Meteorological Agency, Kotoka International Airport, told the Ghana News Agency that with the season hitting its peak, the frequency of rainfall would be much higher.

He said this increased the possibility of flooding, adding that people in flood prone areas should take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

Mr Portuphy also said it was important to clear gutters and drains to minimise the possibility of flooding, resulting from choked drains.

The season's peak is expected to last throughout the month of June, whilst the entire rainy season would taper off to an end within the month of July, Mr Portuphy said.

Southern Ghana is currently experiencing its first and major rainy season for the year.

The second and minor rainy season is expected later on in the year
