Redmi Go is the latest smartphone to join Xiaomi’s entry-level range in India. Launched back in January initially, Redmi Go comes with Android Oreo (Go edition) that is favourable for low-memory apps, including the Google Go apps like YouTube Go, Google Go, Maps Go, and more.
Xiaomi Redmi Go price in India is Rs 4,499 for the 1GB/ 8GB version. The smartphone comes in Blue and Classic Black colours. The sale starts at 12 noon on March 22 via Flipkart, Mi.com, and Mi Home Stores. Jio customers can avail up to Rs 2,200 cashback along with 100GB of 4G data on purchasing the Redmi Go.
The entry-level smartphone market in India is crowded by the likes of dumbed-down smartphones, feature phones, and the ‘smart’ feature phone. Xiaomi has a stronghold in the ‘affordable’ segment in India, which is why it has an upper hand when it comes to delivering low-cost hardware products, such as smartphones. Redmi Go packs Google’s customised version of Android for such smartphones.
Apart from Google’s suite of Go apps, the Redmi Go comes preloaded with Mi Pay app – Xiaomi’s own payments app that was launched alongside in India. This is the first time Xiaomi has introduced its Mi Pay app outside China. Xiaomi has integrated UPI services into Mi-Pay to allow users to transfer funds from the bank account, pay for utilities, and scan QR codes. Mi-Pay will also be available across other Xiaomi and Android smartphones.
The Xiaomi Redmi Go sports a 5-inch HD display with an aspect ratio of 16:9. There is support for dual SIM cards in a dedicated slot. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB or 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via microSD card up to 128GB. Since Redmi Go is an Android Go device, the users get unlimited storage on Google Photos for high-quality images.
There is an 8-megapixel rear camera on the Redmi Go that also supports HDR. For selfies, the smartphone has a 5-megapixel shooter with Auto-HDR. The Redmi Go is backed by a 3000mAh battery under the hood. It has a brush metallic finish on the body that also supports dual-pyrolytic graphite sheet for protection against overheating.
