A highly respected British broadsheet newspaper says the opposition NPP has set the stage for tension in Ghana after claiming they have won the election.

The Financial Times, which is highly respected by governments and top business says the pronouncement by the NPP has brought tension in the country following Wednesday's elections on Ghana.

In a big article headlined 'Ghana opposition sets stage for tension with poll victory claim' the article sought to posit that the action of the NPP has brought Ghana onto the edge of an abyss.

Tensions seem to be rising in Ghana on Thursday after NPP supporters poured onto the streets claiming the Electoral Commission is attempting to steal the election in favour of the ruling NDC.

This came after leaders of the opposition demanded an immediate release of the results by the EC following delays in the release of the results.

The elections organising body said they need to come out with accurate results to prevent challenges.

Soldiers have been seen patrolling the streets of Accra while there is strong military presence.

The NPP has claimed several parliamentary seat and are coasting to a majority in the legislative body.

They claim they expect a trickle down effect on the presidential election from the success at the parliamentary polls.

The NPP's presidential candidate has called for calm amid the uncertainty.
