Responsible track record earns Jegri Bekala Dormaa Mining rights – Board of Governors

Barimah Twumasi Bekoe II, a member of the Board of Governors of Jegri Bekala Limited and Twaforhene of the Dormaa Traditional Council, has stated that the company’s selection to operate in the Dormaa Central Municipality and Dormaa East District of the Bono Region was based purely on merit.

He explained that after a rigorous vetting process, Jegri Bekala Limited was granted approval to undertake large-scale surface and alluvial gold mining in the area, owing to its proven track record of responsible mining.

According to Barimah Bekoe II, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II, Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, has taken a decisive stance against illegal mining (galamsey) due to its destructive impact on forests, vegetation, water bodies, and community health.

“The Dormaahene finally settled on Jegri Bekala Limited after thoroughly scrutinising the backgrounds of three shortlisted mining companies,” he said.

Speaking at a stakeholder engagement organised by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) at Aboabo Number Two, and attended by traditional leaders, assembly members, and community representatives, Barimah Bekoe II noted that Jegri Bekala Limited operates under a strict policy to recruit 60% of its skilled and unskilled workforce from local communities.

He added that where local expertise is unavailable, external hires will be made, but priority will always be given to qualified local candidates.

The company has also committed to negotiating fair compensation with landowners, farmers, and households affected by its operations within the concession area.

“Jegri Bekala is here for development, and we will ensure that our presence benefits the people,” Barimah Bekoe II assured.
