Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga has reportedly gone to the National Chief Imam to seek his intervention and help to plead to Hon. Muntaka Mohammed on his behalf for falsely accusing him in the bribery saga, a grapevine source to the office of the Chief Imam has revealed.

Ayariga had alleged that GHC3,000 was given to him by the Minority Chief Whip Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak and after he was told the money was a donation from then Energy Minister-designate Boakye Agyarko, whose approval the minority was challenging, he returned it.

Mahama Ayariga said he was initially under the impression that the money was to cover their sitting allowance which Parliament's Appointments Committee members had demanded.

The claim caused public uproar triggering calls for an independent investigation to be instituted into the matter. The Speaker of Parliament Professor Mike Aaron Ocquaye acting on a motion set up a five-member committee chaired by Railways Development Minister, Joe Ghartey to unearth the truth about the issue.

However it seems Hon.Mahama Ayariga is developing cold feet on the issue and is seeking the intervention of the Chief Imam to help him settle the matter with his long time friend Muntaka.

Muntaka is willing to forgive him but only if Ayariga makes  a public statement denouncing his accusations against him as falsehood and clearing his name of the mud that he has already dragged him into. It is only then that the two can smoke the peace pipe and move on.

Be it as it may, parliament's adhoc body tasked with finding out the truth about the alleged bribery has been set in motion as Ghanaians wait and see how the next chapters of this mystery unfolds.
