President-elect, Nana Akufo Addo says his government will restructure the system to get traditional leaders of the country on-board to participate more effectively in the governance system of the country.

Addressing the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs as part of his Thank you tour of the Northern part of the country, after winning the 2016 elections, Nana Addo observed that the involvement of chiefs in the governance system in Ghana’s democracy  leaves much to be desired.

According to him, the role of traditional leaders in governance is not effective as it should be and that ought to be changed with his assumption of office.

Nana Addo also says he intends to maintain a very disciplined leadership approach to the presidency and ensure that through good governance and the rule of law, he will implement to the latter all the promises he made during his campaign.

“…I want to work very closely with the traditional authorities in our  country to improve governance of our nation. There is still a gap in the formal constitutional structure of our democracy as far as the involvement of traditional rulers are concerned. And it is my intention with your cooperation and help that immediately after the formal hand over of the authority , members of my team will sit with traditional authorities in the country for us to restructure a more engaged and more involved form of government which the traditional authorities of our country will play a part. I believe that it will be a major boost to the quality of governance in our country.”
