Ronald Donkor helps New York Red Bulls' to historic Eastern Conference victory
3rd December 2024
Ghanaian midfielder Ronald Donkor played a pivotal role in New York Red Bulls’ historic victory as they clinched their first-ever Eastern Conference Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
The 20-year-old, who came off the bench, helped his side edge past Orlando City 1-0, securing a place in the 2024 MLS Cup final after a remarkable playoff run.
The only goal of the match came from defender Andres Reyes, who scored a decisive header just two minutes into the second half.
Reyes connected with John Tolkin’s expertly delivered cross from a set piece, capitalizing on Orlando City’s defensive lapse to give the Red Bulls the lead.
Donkor, who has been a standout performer this season, has made 20 appearances since being promoted to the senior team.
His contributions have been crucial in helping the Red Bulls achieve this milestone, which marks their first Eastern Conference title.
The Red Bulls will now turn their attention to the 2024 MLS Cup final, where they will face LA Galaxy on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Dignity Health Sports Park.
With the Eastern Conference title in hand, Donkor and his teammates will be looking to cap off their successful campaign by securing the ultimate prize.
