The chief of staff of Forum for Kings and Traditional Leaders of Africa, Torgbui Gobah Tengey, in collaboration with Royals of Africa, will organise a 10-day sports festival at Keta from September 2 to 11 to promote peace among the youth in the country.

Selected teams from Togo, Benin, Nigeria and Ghana will participate in the tournament designed to promote a peaceful atmosphere in the country in the run-up to the December general election.

Aside a giant trophy at stake for the winner, players who will excel stand a chance of being selected to develop their careers with teams in Spain and the United Arab Emirates.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic in the company of Kunle Olaraji and Kabara A. Zachariah, both members of the Royals of Africa, Torgbui Tengey said the tournament, dubbed Royals Peace Soccer, is also intended to develop the potential of young players.

“The time has come for the youth in the country to disassociate themselves from partisan politics likely to breed violence in any part of the country and rather nurture their potential in sports and other disciplines to make them better citizens in future,” he said.

He promised to use sports to ensure unity among the youth from different ethnic and religious backgrounds in the West African sub-region to sustain peaceful co-existence among the youth.
