Real Tamale United(RTU) have secured promotion to the Ghana Premier League after a wonderful season in the Division One League zone one which has been a hot bed of troubles.

After eight years hiatus from the elite division, the pride of the north are back to the Ghana Premier League in what has been a fierce battle with the Bono teams in the division.

They managed to beat Unity FC 2-0 at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale to pick the only ticket in that zone to the elite division.

Bofoakwa Tano have had a stellar campaign thus far and led the table with 64 points heading into the last game and needed to beat Berekum Arsenal but could only manage a draw.

The two sides ended the season level on points both tied at 65 points each but the Northern based side gained promotion via superior head to head as they drew 2-2 in Sunyani against Boafoakwa and beat they 1-0 in Tamale.

RTU got relegated in the 2013 after a 4-1 loss to New Edubiase and with seven matches to end the season and failed to record a win in 29 matches.

They had conceded as many as 71 goals and scored just 19 times - an average of 0.65 per game.

RTU was coached into the elite division by former Hearts of Oak trainer Shaibu Tanko, as they scored 58 goals in 30 games and conceded 24.
