Sagnarigu MUSEC Imposes Curfew After Deadly Land Dispute Clashes
The Sagnarigu Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has imposed an indefinite dusk-to-dawn curfew on Damankunyili, Nyeshie and nearby communities following violent communal clashes that left one person dead and six others injured.
The unrest is believed to have stemmed from a protracted land ownership dispute, with both the Damankunyili and Nyeshie communities claiming rights over the same piece of land.
In response to the deteriorating security situation, MUSEC convened an emergency meeting on Tuesday to assess developments and implement measures aimed at restoring peace and preventing further violence.
A statement signed by the Municipal Chief Executive and Chairman of MUSEC, Abdulai Imoro Gong, condemned the clashes, extended condolences to the family of the deceased and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
As part of the emergency measures, the council announced that a daily curfew from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. will take immediate effect and remain in force until further notice.
MUSEC has also prohibited the possession and carrying of firearms, ammunition and other offensive weapons within the affected communities, warning that anyone found violating the directive will face legal consequences.
To ensure compliance, security has been intensified in the area, with joint police patrols deployed to enforce the curfew and maintain law and order.
The council has appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies, adhere strictly to the restrictions and support efforts to restore lasting peace in the municipality.
