Ghanaian rising star Christopher Bonsu Baah has confirmed his imminent switch to Saudi Arabia, stating that his decision to join Al-Qadsiah is rooted in professional ambition—not financial gain.

The 20-year-old winger, who turned 21 last December, is expected to sign a five-year deal with the Saudi Pro League outfit, keeping him at the club until 2030.

The move, which begins ahead of the 2025/26 season, follows a reported €15 million agreement between Belgian side KRC Genk and Al-Qadsiah, as first reported by Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

In an interview addressing speculation surrounding the motives behind his move, Bonsu Baah was clear:

“Moving to Saudi is not just about money or anything. It is about me progressing in my football career.”

This statement pushes back against the growing narrative that players are flocking to the Saudi league purely for lucrative wages.

Bonsu Baah joined Genk from Sarpsborg 08 in Norway ahead of the 2023/24 season and made an immediate impact.

In his debut year, he featured in 43 matches, netting three goals and contributing five assists, earning recognition for his flair, speed, and work ethic.

His performances mirrored the trajectory of fellow Ghanaian Joseph Paintsil, who also made his mark at Genk before moving to LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer.

The young winger’s breakout year earned him a spot in the Black Stars squad for the Unity Cup, where he featured against Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place playoff.

Al-Qadsiah, who finished fourth in the 2024/25 Saudi Pro League season, are looking to strengthen for a title challenge and continental competition.

Bonsu Baah’s signing is seen as a move to add youthful dynamism and attacking flair to a team already on the rise, with Al-Ittihad having claimed the league title.

His transfer marks a significant chapter in the career of one of Ghana’s most exciting young prospects, who now looks to make his mark in a new footballing frontier.
