Deteriorating Sekondi Essipong Sports Stadium will soon be renovated, National Sports Authority Director Professor Peter Twumasi, has said.

He says reports has already be presented to the Sports Ministry on which action will be taken to give  the 20000 capacity stadium a face lift.

"Essipong stadium would be renovated."I have heard about the state oft he venue and I decided to pass through and inspect it myself," he told the media during his tour in the Western region.

"I know the Minister has also gotten reports from it, it will surely be renovated."

The Essipong stadium was built in 2007 to host the CAN 2008 tournament.

The roof, changing rooms, rest rooms and majority of the metal railings of the stadium are completely broken or corroded.

The dilapidated nature of the once magnificent edifice is a worrying spectacle and once again brings to the fore Ghana’s lack of maintenance culture, especially when it comes to sporting infrastructure.
