Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye was last night sworn in by the Chief Justice, Mrs. Justice Sophia Akuffo as acting President of Ghana .

The swearing in administered by the Chief Justice, Mrs Justice Sophia Akuffo, was in conformity with the constitutional requirement, which provides for the swearing in of the Speaker in the absence of the President and the Vice President.

This follows the President's leave of absence in the UK while the Vice President is on a state visit to Cuba and Canada.

The President took a scheduled one week leave of absence as part of his annual leave from Thursday, July 11, 2019, a statement from the Presidency announced.

While the Vice President ,  Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, left Accra, Ghana for Havana, Cuba, on Tuesday, July 16th, 2019 on a two-day official visit.

Dr Bawumia will be the Special Guest of Honour at the Graduation Ceremony of 232 Ghanaian doctors trained at the University of Medical Sciences, Cuba.

Vice President Bawumia will depart Havana on Saturday, 20th July, 2019 for Vancouver, Canada to lead Ghana’s delegation on a Trade and Investment Mission, organised by the Ghana High Commission in collaboration with the Canada Africa Strategic Investment Group Inc.

Dr Bawumia will also deliver a lecture at the Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, and interact with the Ghanaian community in Vancouver.
