The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Effia Constituency in the Western Region, Mr Michael  Otoo, is  launching  his campaign at a mammoth rally today in a bid to recapture the parliamentary seat from the  NPP.

The "changing lives; transforming  Effia" campaign  is  kicking off    with vigor on Sunday , with the visit of party stalwart Dr Ekow Spio Garbrah.

Speaking to ghanaguardian.com ahead of Sunday's launch, Micheal Otoo said:"We are here to change lives and to transform Effia. The people of Effia want to sea progress, they have voted for the NPP since 1996 but nothing good has come out of that.

"Today, they have come to realise the good works  of President John Mahama and the NDC and have equally seen the negative effects of what voting for the NPP has done to their lives now."

"The NPP has betrayed  this constituency for far too long and we are here today to rescue this constituency from the NPP's  lies and unfair treatments."

The NDC's Michael  Otoo will be seeking his debut challenge and the party's 5th to wrestle the parliamentary seat from the NPP, an exercise that has proven futile  for the past 20 years.

He comes in as the NDC's 6th candidate in sixth attempt to snatch the seat it last won in the 1992 election, by the late Abdulai Muhammed Seidu.

The NDC won the then Effia-Kwesimntsim constituency  seat in the 1992 0nly to lose it the NPP in the 1996 election and has since been chasing  that  seat in futility as the people have   kept voting for the NPP.

Effia constituency now stands on its own  after   the creation of the  Kwesimintsim constituency in the last election and has seen tremendous change while analysts have touted Michael Otoo as the  most formidable candidate presented by the NDC ever since it lost the seat in the 1996 elections.

"I stand for unity and call on all well-meaning citizens of Effia Kuma to come together to take back what belong to  us from the NPP, he said.

"We voted for them in 1996,2000,2004,2008 and 2012 and all have ended up in betrayal.Let punish them now, let them know we cannot be taken for granted", he added.
