Construction on the long-delayed Suame Interchange Project in Kumasi is set to restart next week, according to the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza.

In a social media update on April 1, the Minister revealed that the government has cleared outstanding payments owed to contractors—arrears tied to certified works dating back to 2024—which had significantly slowed progress on the project.

With the financial bottlenecks resolved, contractors are expected to return to site and fully mobilise in the coming days to resume construction.

The Suame Interchange Project is considered a key intervention to ease traffic congestion in Kumasi, particularly in the bustling Suame area.

Delays in its execution had sparked frustration among commuters and businesses due to worsening gridlock and economic disruptions.

Mr Agbodza thanked the public for their patience during the hiatus and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the project, highlighting its importance in improving urban mobility and road infrastructure in the Ashanti Region.
