The Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Boxing Federation, under the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and the National Sports Authority (NSA) are set to hold the maiden edition of boxing tournament on “Boxing Day” Thursday, December 26, in Sunyani.

Mr. Frank Opoku Adjapong, the Chairman of the regional GBA said this, when he led the 11-member Federation to pay a courtesy call on Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, the Paramount Chief of Sunyani Traditional Area and members of the Sunyani Traditional Council on Friday in Sunyani.

The tournament, dubbed “Titanic Bout” is to honor Nana Nkrawiri II and also to raise funds to support the effective operation of the Regions Police Clinic in Sunyani, Mr. Adjapong said.

He said tournament was being used as a platform for the revival of boxing as one of the most popular sporting disciplines in the two regions and also as a conduit to promote professional boxing in the country.

Nana Nkrawiri II commended the executives and members of the Federation for the commitment to bring boxing which used to be one of the lovely and interesting sporting disciplines in the region.

He noted “there is the great need for its revival” and therefore entreated the Federation to do whatever it can to bring it back to light”.

Nana Yaw Konadu, a former World Boxing Authority (WBA) Bantamweight champion who is also the regional boxing trainer presented his world title won in 1999 to the Paramount Chief and members of the Council.

He said the Federation had targeted and would do all things possible to nurture young talents who would be capable to annex world boxing titles for Ghana.
