The Black Stars broke the heart of millions of Africans after crushing out of the global showpiece in Germany in the quarter-final stage.

Luiz Suarez handled a goal-bound header from Dominic Adiyiah with just a minute left to play in extra-time before Asamoah Gyan crushed the resulting penalty against the bar.

And Boateng, who was an influential member of the squad, says they deserved a place in the semis.

“After getting out of the group it was definitely our aim to reach the semi-finals. I think we deserved to as well, people could see how much passion there was in our game, we had the fans and the whole continent behind us,” the La Palmas new star told FIFA TV on Tuesday.

“I could not play at the same level in 2014 for a thousand reasons.” Boateng added.

The former AC Milan midfielder has been suspended indefinitely from the team after he verbally abused former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The ex-Schalke player, who was not at his playing best at the World Cup, played a bit part role in the Black Stars early exit from the tournament in Brazil.
