Sustain Economic Reforms to strengthen private sector – GNCCI

The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) has praised the government for its efforts to uphold fiscal discipline and called for the continued implementation of major economic programmes to drive private sector expansion and national growth.

GNCCI President Stephane Miezan made the remarks at the Chamber’s Mid-Year Budget Review Seminar held in Accra.

The event, organised under the GNCCI’s National Dialogue Series, brought together business executives, policymakers, economists, development partners and stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to discuss Ghana’s economic performance and assess the impact of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review on businesses.

Miezan said the Budget Review presented a positive outlook on Ghana’s economic recovery, but stressed that the success of government’s flagship initiatives would depend on effective execution, adequate funding and closer cooperation with the private sector.

According to him, the review highlighted progress in rebuilding macroeconomic stability and creating a more predictable environment that could encourage investment and support sustainable economic expansion.

The GNCCI President commended the government’s move away from heavy borrowing and increased expenditure towards more responsible fiscal management, describing the approach as a boost to investor confidence.

He, however, noted that key programmes such as the 24-Hour Economy, Accelerated Export Development Programme, the Big Push initiative and other industrial and agricultural projects remain in the early phases of implementation.

He emphasised that the impact of these initiatives would rely on timely delivery, consistency in policy direction, adequate financial support and stronger partnerships between government and businesses.

Miezan urged the government to sustain the current momentum by improving coordination among institutions and creating more structured platforms for engagement with the private sector to ensure policies translate into tangible economic results.

He explained that the GNCCI’s National Dialogue Series is designed to promote meaningful discussions between government, businesses, development partners and citizens on critical economic and commercial issues.

The platform also supports private sector advocacy through research-based recommendations and encourages informed conversations on national development priorities.

Miezan said the seminar allowed participants to review fiscal policy implementation, identify emerging opportunities and challenges, and explore measures to improve business competitiveness and promote sustainable growth.

He noted that companies continue to operate amid both local and global economic uncertainties, making accurate analysis and timely economic insights essential for effective planning and investment decisions.

The GNCCI President reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to representing the interests of Ghana’s private sector by strengthening collaboration among government, industry, academia and the business community to support inclusive economic development.
