Government has promised it will ensure that settlers at the Kpong Quarters in the Eastern region whose properties would be affected following the construction of the Tema to Mphakadan Railway project are duly compensated.

The project which has already commenced will pass through the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region where most of the residents who will be affected have been given days to vacate.

The affected settlers at Kpong Quarters have since been given a few days to decide on either they prefer cash compensations or buildings at a different location.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Simon Kweku Tetteh who led the officials from the Volta River Authority (VRA) and Ghana Railway Development Authority assured the affected settlers that the Municipal Assembly will make sure their livelihoods are not affected over the project.

He also assured them of the government's commitment to making sure they are all duly compensated.

The Railway Construction company, Afconz also assured the natives that they are a law-abiding international railway company and they will make sure their operations in the area will not affect their lives.

The VRA had since registered over 1,100 persons living in the Kpong VRA Resettlement community unto the NHIS.

They are also constructing a fence wall around the Kpong R/C School as well as providing a new place of convenience to replace the one affected by the project.
