Ten simple habits of people who successfully lose weight and keep it off
27th October 2019
If you want to break out of the constant ‘diet, weight-gain, diet’, cycle, then you can do so by looking at some of these habits that thin people have.
People who lose weight, and then keep it off, don’t obsess over their weight because they don’t need to.
These ten simple habits simply keep the weight off for them. What is the best way to lose weight and keep the weight off?
Let’s find out…
1. They don’t have a post-diet binge
Don’t celebrate reaching your weight loss target with a giant pig-out! During a diet, you will have gained the habit of eating healthier and a post-diet binge will only get you straight back into the bad old eating habits again.
2. They control their portion sizes
You can still enjoy your food in smaller portions, so don’t overload your plate every mealtime. Whatever the type of food, get into the habit of only serving small portions and then that’s what your body will come to expect.
3. They stay active
One of the biggest causes of obesity is a lack of physical activity. It’s not just the workout habit that you have to develop though; perpetually thin people also play sports, enjoy outdoor activities and generally stay more physically active.
4. They don’t skip meals
Thin people don’t overeat, but neither do they skip meals. Keeping yourself fuelled and feeling full, by eating regular meals, will stop you getting that ravenous feeling that will lead to overeating at some point in the day.
5. They cook at home
If you prepare your own meals, then you know exactly what is going into the food and you can control portion sizes. That’s not to say that thin people have never enjoyed a meal out or don’t have the occasional fast food meal delivered. But’s it’s an occasional treat, not their regular diet.
6. They do weigh themselves
You may have heard that you don’t need to weigh yourself to stay thin, but that’s a little like saying that you don’t have to look at your car dashboard, to see how fast you are going. Thin people don’t obsess over their weight, but they do keep an eye on it.
7. They choose the healthy option
Thin people tend to look for the healthy option on a menu, without even thinking about it. They will be looking for the low fat, high fibre option and something with fresh ingredients too.
8. They find other ways to combat stress
Don’t turn to the chocolate or the ice cream when you are feeling low. If you want to stay thin, then think of other ways to combat stress, like going for a walk, or phoning a friend. Identify the triggers that cause you to eat, be aware of them and make a conscious effort to steer clear of eating when these events do occur.
9. They surround themselves with like-minded people
Now, we are not suggesting that you arbitrarily dump all of your friends that tend to overeat and don’t exercise, but it does make it more difficult for you if you spend all your time with them. Try and develop a circle of friends with the same healthy outlook as you and share some of your time with them too.
10. They habitually think thin
To stay thin, you need to think thin. The slender, fit people of this world wouldn’t dream of super-sizing at a burger joint, they wouldn’t jump in a cab when they could walk instead and they wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to join in some kind of physical activity with friends. It’s just a habit and, this is one habit that they are more than happy to keep.
