TEWU-TUC set to strike today
18th November 2024
The Teachers and Educational Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress (TEWU-TUC), unless there are last-minute changes, is set to begin a nationwide strike today, Monday, November 18.
The industrial action is in protest over the government’s failure to address longstanding concerns over their conditions of service, with members expressing frustration over the delay.
TEWU lamented the government’s prolonged delay in finalizing, signing, and implementing the conditions of service for its members, despite years of review negotiations.
In a statement, TEWU mentioned the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Ghana Library Authority, the Museums and Monuments Board, as well as Public Technical Universities and Public Universities.
However, the National Labour Commission (NLC) on Friday asked the union to rescind its decision and return to the negotiation table.
The NLC has therefore invited TEWU to a meeting with relevant stakeholders on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, to resolve the matter.
But TEWU is yet to respond to the invitation.
