Stroke, or “brain attack”, occurs when blood flow to the brain is cut off, so brain cells are deprived of oxygen and they start dying.

There are 2 types of stroke:

  • Hemorrhagic stroke: caused by bleeding in the brain; this type is less common.

  • Ischemic stroke: caused by blocked or narrowed arteries in the brain, which leads to reduced blood flow.

The brain controls most of the body functions. When the brain cells begin to die, due to stroke, blood flow can`t get to the organ or body part which control a specific body function, so this part stops working properly.

Our body can send us some warning signs of stroke even a month before it happens. If we know how to recognize them and we immediately visit our doctor, we`ll reduce the risk of a serious brain damage. Also, acting on time will improve the chances of recovery and reduce the risk of disability or death to a minimum.

Medical experts explain that the signs and symptoms of possible stroke vary from person to person, and they depend on which part of the brain is affected, the extent of the damage as well as the type of stroke. In order to prevent stroke, you should maintain a healthy lifestyle, eat healthy, exercise regularly, lose the excess weight and fat and reduce the bloating, but also watch out for these common symptoms of stroke:
