This year millions of smartphone users are about to get 230 new emojis to express their thoughts better. As mentioned by the Emojipedia blog post, these 230 new emojis are finalised and will be coming to Android, iOS and other users. The list includes some India-specific emojis as well such as Hindu Temple, Auto rickshaw, Diya Lamp, and Sari, which denotes different religions and their cultures.
Some of the emojis that you may see soon are Flamingo, Otter, Guide Dog, Waffle, Sloth, Mate, Yawning Face, Pinching Hand, new mixed skin tones for people holding hands, kneeling person, Manual wheelchair, Motorized Wheelchair, Ear with hearing aid and much more.

For animals, besides Flamingo, Sloth, Otter and Guide Dog, the new set of emojis include an Orangutan and Skunk. It is worth adding that the 230 emojis are including all the variations of new and existing emojis. All these come as a part of Emoji 12.0. The entire list includes 59 new emojis and 75 when gender variations are included.

The Unicode blog states that these new emojis should start showing up in devices in September and October. This also falls around the same time when Google and Apple start rolling out their new Android and iOS versions.

On a related note, WhatsApp recently rolled out the second update for Android beta users. The update v2.19.21 comes with a new emoji layout for 21 emojis. These emojis come with minute changes, small alterations in colour and design details. The same update also comes with a few media-related shortcuts. After the update, when you view a media file shared on WhatsApp, you will be able to see new options including “Set as…” and “Rotate,” when you tap on the three dots on the right corner. While these are only applicable to images, one new option of “Show in chat” will be available for all images, audio and video files.
