SWAG  best footballer nominee Thomas Abbey has made a surprise move to Egyptian side Ismaily SC, ending a possible return to Accra Hearts of oak for the 2017/18 season.

The Wafu Cup winner has been hankering to join a foreign club following the expiration of his contract with the Phobians in October last year.

The 24-year-old finalised his move to the  Ismaïlia-based side on a free transfer , after passing his mandatory medical at the club on Wednesday evening, reports say.

It is not yet known how many years he signed and how much is involved in the deal, which will see him join compatriot Richard Baffour at the Yellow and Blue lads.

Abbey, who has been nominated for this year's SWAG Best Footballer, made a return to the Rainbow club earlier this month, after failing to secure a contract at South African side Ajax Cape Town after a two-week trial.

His new move brings to an end a six years relationship with Accra Hearts of oak, a team he joined from division one side Windy Professionals.

Abbey was the highest goal scorer for the Phobians in the 2016/17 league season, with 13 goals in 28  appearances for the club.

The midfielder undoubtedly was Hearts of Oak’s best player, having won four man-of-the-match awards with 15 goals in all competitions.

The attacking midfielder was also part of the Black Star B squad that won the 2017Fox Wafu tournament in which Coach Maxwell Konadu shifted him to the left back position.

Thomas Abbey is shortlisted among two others for the Sports Writers Association of Ghana(SWAG) Best Footballer of the Year for the Ghana Premier League.
